Facebook Marketing: The “Thanks for Being My Friend” Video Approach

I hope you enjoyed my “Thank You For Being My Facebook Friend” video. Videos are a great way to introduce yourself and your business to others on Facebook, and here are a couple tips if you’d like to create something like this yourself.

How to not annoy people with videos

If you’re going to reach out to people on Facebook through videos, especially if you want to offer them something to buy, please keep the following in mind:

  • No blatant pitching: Don’t lead with something you’re selling. We’ve all seen it–someone jumps on your Facebook profile and gives you an unsolicited pitch to buy something from them. That’s not only annoying, it’s ineffective.
  • Offer several things: You don’t know if someone is interested in your business, so offer them a couple of things to choose from before you bring up business. Facebook is a social site, so fun or interesting non-business things are generally well accepted (in my video I offer funny pictures to look at).
  • Offer something of value: Don’t say “Visit my site and buy something from me”. Say “Visit my site and I’ll give you something that you’re interested in” and people are much more likely to respond.
  • Be funny: If you can make someone laugh, any marketing message you add in there isn’t nearly as intrusive. Bonus: If it’s really well done, people will watch your video repeatedly and even share it with others.

Getting a video on someone’s wall

Getting information on someone’s Facebook wall is the best way to get their attention. Here’s the fastest way to do that:

Once you upload a video to Facebook you are able to “tag” people in the video. Once you tag someone in your video, the video will show up on their wall. You can erase those tags after a few days and tag an entirely new group of people, and do this as often as you like to bring your video in front of new people on a regular basis.

You can also do this with pictures you upload to Facebook.

Happy marketing!
